Opened for business in July 2009, this new convention centre is fully integrated with the existing exhibition centre to create the most versatile and advanced convention and exhibition centre in the Southern Hemisphere. Accredited with the first 6 Star Green Star environmental rating in Australia for a convention centre, it offers visitors a mix of natural light and fresh air while using a range of power saving initiatives.
FUNCTIONS
The 5,000-seat Plenary Hall can be divided into three self-contained halls while ensuring a clear view to the stage for all members of the audience. The MCEC provides seamless computer networking to all meeting rooms, theatres and over 30,000 square metres (323,000 sq ft) of exhibition space, as well as audio-visual event services for conferences, exhibitions and meetings.
Large international and national events for up to 5,000 are well catered for, providing outstanding efficiency and flexibility for conferences and conventions, exhibitions, meetings and gala and special events.
FOOD AND BEVERAGE
The MCEC’s in-house catering team believe that food and beverage are fundamental to the success of any event large or small and are committed to combining the freshest ingredients with an array of unique flavours. The MCEC support Victorian wine growers, with all wine sourced from a variety of boutique and small vineyards across Victoria’s world-renowned wine regions.
Function menus are individually designed to specific requirements and matched with wines to complement each selection. Their executive chef is delighted to host individual menu tastings for clients with enough flexibility to take an adventurous approach to catering if desired, providing alternative solutions such as champagne and oyster bars.
